Sunday, August 3
Featured Speaker “Some Uses of Minerals by the Indigenous People of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan" by Dr. Susan Martin, Associate Professor of Social Science and an expert on this topic. This presentation is sponsored by the Seaman Mineral Museum Society. The presentation will discuss uses by Indigenous People of copper, quartzite, hematite, obsidian, and jasper, among others. A few rocks may slip into the discussion rather than strictly minerals such as chert and flint, sandstone, etc. And just maybe meteoric iron too. In Room 642 DOW building Michigan Tech campus from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. For registered participants and Seaman Society Members.
Gift Shop and Mineral Sale at the Seaman Mineral Museum, 5th Floor EERC building Michigan Tech campus from 3 pm to 6 pm. Regular gift shop merchandise will be discounted 20 % for registrants ONLY during Sunday afternoon. Retreat registrants will get a 20 % DISCOUNT on minerals beginning 3 pm on Sunday afternoon throughout the mineral retreat week and ending on Sunday August 10. The museum has a good stock of surplus available for purchase.
Mineral Identification Seminar in Room 642 DOW Building Michigan Tech campus from 5:30 to 6 pm.
Monday, August 4
Retreat Speaker "Cubic Pyrite from Navajún, Spain" by A.E. Seaman Museum Director and Professor of Economic and Engineering Geology Dr. Ted Bornhorst. This program was presented at the 2007 Rochester Mineral Symposium. Retreat participants will be treated to travel to this world famous mineral collecting locality and the science behind formation of the beautiful pyrite cubes in Room 642 of the Dow Building, Michigan Tech campus beginning at 7:30 pm. For registered participants.
Tuesday, August 5
Quincy Mine Swap at Quincy Hoist Parking Lot. This is your opportunity to purchase those special specimens. Or if you wish to sell you will need to purchase a table through the Quincy Mine Hoist at 482-3101. Open to the general public from 7 to 9 pm.
Wednesday, August 6
Mineral Retreat Banquet and Auctions at Wadsworth Dining Hall Michigan Tech campus. Festivities begin at 6 pm with a cash bar and silent auction followed at 7 pm by by the banquet with three main course choices. The silent auction closes after banquet at about 8 pm. The voice auction begins at about 8 pm and is open to those not attending the banquet. Bidders for voice auction must register and obtain bidding paddles.
Thursday, August 7
Red Metal Minerals Open House, water front downtown Ontonagon ( 202 Ontonagon Street ) from noon to 5:00 pm. Warehouse and retail sale with light lunch for participants.
Friday, August 8
Mineral Retreat Brag Session and Social, Keweenaw Brewing Company in downtown Houghton from 8 to 10 pm. We will provide the popcorn and pretzels while you purchase the drink of your choice. And then let the show and tell begin. Bring you special finds of the past week to show others and tell your favorite story from the retreat. Door prizes will be distributed at around 9 pm.

Keweenaw Gem and Gift Open House, M-26, Houghton Demonstrations, door prizes, and complimentary food and beverages for participants from 6 to 10 pm

Gem and Mineral Show, at Portage Elementary School Gymnasium, Bridge Street , Houghton organized by the Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club. Friday, August 11from 1 to 8 pm, Saturday August 12 from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday August 13 from 11am to 5 pm.
