The H. Dibble Gem Collection
A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum

Michigan Technological University

Calcite - "The Doris"
1017 carats
Balmat, New York

In 2001, the Seaman Mineral Museum received a major donation in the form of 106 mineral specimens and 23 faceted gemstones from Harold Dibble of Angola, New York. Dibble, who together with his late wife, Doris, owned and managed a major hardware store in Buffalo, New York, has had a lifelong interest in minerals and the arts. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Dibble skillfully applied his training as an engineer to improving and computerizing many of the essential functions of the hardware business, and served on several national advisory committees to the True Value co-op. The world of minerals was a natural for Harold, as it perfectly melded his two chief interests, science and art, and over several decades he assembled a magnificent collection, a significant part of which now resides at the Seaman Museum.

All of the faceted stones shown on these pages were cut by master faceter Arthur Grant.
