The retreat organizers have obtained legal permission to access and prepare old mine rock piles for surface collecting. You may be on the site ONLY during the times of the event. If you return to a site it is not legal and at your own risk!!
Saturday, August 1
Registration
noon - 4:30 pm - New registrations, additions, and changes to activities accepted. A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum, central Michigan Tech Campus (EERC 5th floor), Houghton. Free weekend parking anywhere on campus.
Sunday, August 2
Registration
noon - 6:00 pm - New registrations, additions, and changes to activities accepted. Registration for Monday paid events closes at 6:00 pm. A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum, central Michigan Tech Campus (EERC 5th floor), Houghton. Free weekend parking anywhere on campus.
Afternoon Events 1:00 pm-2:00 pm Featured Retreat Speaker sponsored by the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum Society - "Microminerals of the Iron Country: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota" by Dan Behnke, micromineral collector and photographer. Room 642 DOW Building (follow signs). Open to participants and Society members.
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm Mineral and Gift Shop Sale at Museum - A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum (EERC 5th floor), central Michigan Tech Campus, Houghton. Mineral and gift shop sale with special discount ONLY for registered participants.
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm Keweenaw Mineral Identification - Advice and Tips A short introduction to Keweenaw mineral identification for first-time collectors by Dr. George Robinson and Bob Barron, DOW 642. This event is open to registered participants.

Wednesday, August 5

Full Day Event
9:00 am – 4:00 pm Collect at Any or All of the following localities for one price: Mass C Mine, Knowlton Mine, and/or Nebraska Mine.
Number of registrants will be restricted so that on average, there will be less per site than usual.
Noon – B.Y.O. lunch at pavilion, Caledonia souvenirs available
Evening Event
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm CCMR Mineral Banquet and Auction -Banquet with door prizes, voice and silent auction, and social with cash bar. Michigan Tech Wadsworth Dormitory Dining Hall, U.S. 41 - Social begins at 6:00 pm, Banquet begins at 7 pm. Silent auction closes at about 8:00 pm after the banquet. The A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum benefit voice auction begins about 8:00 pm. Voice auction open to banquet attendees ONLY.
Thursday, August 6

9:00 am - noon Ontonagon Mining History with Larry Molloy as your guide. Trip begins at the Red Metal Minerals Retail Shop in Ontonagon.
9:00 am - noon Michigan Mine Prepared Surface Collecting

1:00 – 4:00 pm Either Baltic Mine Prepared Surface Collecting
noon - 4:00 pm Open House at Red Metal Minerals. Gitchie Gumee Landing Building, 202 Ontonagon Street, west end of downtown Ontonagon. Refreshments, mineral sale, copper cleaning demonstrations, tours of the Lake Sturgeon hatchery, and door prizes. This event is open to registered participants.
Evening Event
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm “ Sneak Peak”- Future Home of the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum on Quincy Hill.
Participants can go inside the stabilized Machine Shop (one of two building which will be the future permanent home of the museum. This event is open to registered participants and friends. Museum Director Ted Bornhorst will be on site to explain and answer questions.

The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club offers a Gem and Mineral Show from Friday August 7 to Sunday August 9 concurrent with the end of the Copper Country Mineral Retreat

EVENTS LISTED ABOVE ARE TENTATIVE UNTIL MARCH 2 ALTHOUGH WE DO NOT EXPECT SIGNIFICANT CHANGES FROM NOW UNTIL THEN
NOTE: CCMR events subject to cancellation if there are insufficient reservations by June 1, 2009.
The field trips listed above are tentative. We expect them to be confirmed as of the end of February, 2009. Even when confirmed should unforeseen circumstances require a change (e.g., rock pile being worked, removed from active-status by owner) we reserve the right to make an appropriate substitution.
