Stanley Joseph Dyl II

Stanley Joseph Dyl II was born in Buffalo, NY in 1953. Stan began working in the museum under curator Jean Peterman Kemp, first as an Aid in 1976, then as a Research Assistant in 1979. He earned his M.S. degree in Geology in 1979 at MTU. From 1981 to 1986 he served as Senior Museum Assistant, and became curator in 1986.

In 1991 Stan published "The Michigan Copper Country" special issue of the Mineralogical Record, with co-author Marc L. Wilson (MTU '75 '79), which was chosen in 1992 as the best article in the MR for 1991 by the Friends of Mineralogy.

By Stan's leadership he has seen the museum through recent years of exciting growth in the museums collection and in the museum staff. He was named to position of Director of the museum in 1996.
